Welcome to Social Security Credit Union

We are a local, not-for-profit, member-owned financial cooperative located in Birmingham, Alabama. Chartered in 1947, we were established to serve current and retired employees of the Social Security Administration and other Department of Health and Human Services offices in the Metropolitan Birmingham area.

We offer a variety of different services to our members, from savings accounts to individual retirement accounts (IRAs). We take pride in our members and the service we provide to them. Once you join SSCU, you’re a member for life. So no matter if you’re retiring, moving, or changing jobs, your membership is still as good as the day you joined.

Qualifications for Membership:

  • Current and retired employees of the Social Security Administration and other Department of Health and Human Services offices in the Metropolitan Birmingham area

  • Family members of the member, related by blood or marriage

  • Other offices or divisions under the jurisdiction of the Southeastern Program Service Center

  • Federal employees located in the Greater Metropolitan Birmingham area

  • All permanent contracted employees that work in the Social Security Administration Building
